Vienna House Community

Together we dance!

The dancers Rosa Perl, Farah Deen, Antonio Rai, Matyas Kantor and Serge Koffi are Vienna-based House dancers, who represent a larger community of House Music lovers in Vienna. In January 2024 they were invited to perform a short performance during a community event in Brno, Czech Republic. Based on that experience, the 5 dancers would like to dig deeper in creating a House Dance performance for Kultursommer Wien.

The format of Kultursommer would allow them to extend already existing ideas and bring in further components of House Dance Culture like music (live DJ), a sense of community and a different perspective on choreographed House Dance movements.

In the first part of the performance the dancers would present a choreographed piece showcasing technique, musicality and House Dance foundations, while in the second part the focus lies on freestyling on music provided by a DJ. In this part, the group aims to include the audience in the performance in order to create a clubbing experience, which is the essence of House Culture. Like this the audience will be able to see two different approaches to and aspects of the dance.

House Dance evolved in the late 70s, early 80s in the underground clubs of New York City and has since then traveled all over the world and different approaches to the Dance and Culture have been developed. Honoring the development and change as well as the roots, this 50 min. performance will be a contemporary witness of the local perspectives and lived practise of the viennese group.
